Darrell Wilson

With more than 25 years' experience in banking, Darrell has built a distinguished career through a variety of managerial roles spanning 20 years. Of these, ten have been spent in senior and executive management positions. Throughout his career, Darrell has held direct responsibility for banking operations, sales management, revenue and portfolio growth, as well as the management of credit, financial, market, operational and non-financial risks. He has consistently ensured compliance with anti-money laundering policies and guidelines, demonstrating strong leadership in risk management and regulatory adherence.

Darrell’s banking journey in Barbados began with CIBC Caribbean Limited, where he undertook comprehensive training across all facets of banking. His areas of training included cards, recoveries, operational risk, banking operations, compliance, anti-money laundering, business banking, corporate and commercial banking, and retail banking. In addition to his technical banking expertise, Darrell gained significant experience in estate management, retirement planning and investments, establishing a firm foundation for his future roles.

After leaving CIBC, Darrell joined RBC Royal Bank of Canada, initially as a Branch Manager of the legacy Hastings Branch. Over time, he advanced to the position of Senior Account Manager at RBC’s flagship Broad Street Branch. There, he was entrusted with managing high net worth and business banking clients, further honing his expertise in client relations and business development.

Darrell’s established reputation led to his recruitment by Barbados National Bank (BNB), a subsidiary of Republic Bank Limited (RBL). He was appointed as Branch Manager at the Warrens Branch & Premium Banking Centre. During his tenure, Darrell managed the rebranding of the branch to Republic Bank (Barbados) Limited and spearheaded operational transformation, which resulted in exceptional growth, enhanced employee engagement and improved customer service. He reorganised the operations of the Premium Banking Centre (private banking), making it more efficient and profitable.

Following his success at Warrens, Darrell was transferred to the Limegrove Branch, where he continued to drive unprecedented growth, foster employee engagement and elevate customer service. He reorganised the unit’s operations and implemented innovative business development strategies, which enabled the unit to move from loss-making to profitability.

Darrell’s transformative leadership was further recognised when he was promoted to a board-appointed role as Cluster Manager of the Speightstown & Limegrove Branches, where he achieved additional successes.

Darrell was subsequently recruited by the ANSA McAl Group, taking on the executive management position of Head of Corporate & Commercial Banking at Consolidated Finance Co. Limited. His role was to establish and build a new line of business, aligning with ANSA’s strategy of expansion through diversification. Consolidated Finance, known for its consumer financing offering, benefited from Darrell’s leadership and banking expertise. Today, the Corporate & Commercial Banking division is a robust and leading contributor to the now rebranded ANSA Merchant Bank (Barbados) Limited.

With a highly successful and diverse career, Darrell is recognised as a rounded banker, with proven leadership capabilities. He has embraced his current role as Advisory Lead at Avenica Financial Advisory Inc. with enthusiasm, confidence and high expectations. His skill in developing, executing and managing retail and corporate banking strategies, positions him to advance the mission and vision of Avenica Financial, as it aims to become a leading force in banking and financial advisory services, founded on the principles of financial literacy.
